What Is Migo?

Migo is a chatbot developed to counter the spread of false and misleading information about migration across the European Union and Poland. It provides users with trustworthy, research-backed insights into migration-related topics using advanced large language models (LLMs).

Purpose

It offers a calm space for citizens to ask complex or controversial questions without fear of judgment. Anonymous usage data is analyzed to improve scientific understanding of information behavior.

How Migo Works

Migo uses academic research, expert-curated sources, and general knowledge to generate real-time answers in conversational language. From Idea to Mission: The Story of Migo

Our Mission

Migo was created to make it easier for citizens to access reliable and impartial information, thereby counteracting polarization. Instead of fueling emotions, it offers a peaceful space to ask questions and seek answers. It uses an extensive collection of scientific publications, research reports, and expert knowledge. When necessary, it also draws on general contextual knowledge to facilitate understanding of the topic.

Why Now?

In times when information spreads rapidly and the line between opinion and fact is often blurred, disinformation becomes a real threat. This is especially true for topics as complex and emotional as migration. False narratives can deepen social divisions, reinforce prejudices, and affect our daily lives, despite the fact that as a society we share many common values. Migo helps citizens distinguish fact from opinion, replacing myths with evidence.

Our Story

Migo was developed by the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology (PJATK) in collaboration with Kozminski University (ALK), building on findings from the Horizon Europe-funded Link4Skills project. The chatbot embodies both institutions’ commitment to socially responsible AI and public education. In this project we have tested how technology can support the detection of disinformation and the process of acquiring reliable information. Migo helps to understand the complexity of the topic, providing a basis for creating one’s own, informed opinions.
